Extra tidbit
I mentioned in the previous post, that two favourite designers were so important... well how could I, being the obsessed individual I am, not show you the images and talent to which I speak of.
ART NOUVEAU
Two words that once uttered, changed my life and view on design forever. I was thrown out of the comfortable design I had imagined, and realized that there was so much more to do with regard to materials, metals especially, and the way concept is presented... This has grown into an obsession and now, a design philosophy which aids me in my approach to design in every project, even my new project this year...
Inspired- Always... Here are some of my favourite images.. Enjoy - I know I always do...
Architecture across realities
Inspired by architecture, interior designers and almost every other field of design utilizes architecture as a means for fresh ideas, new insights into design and even pushes one internally to think and challenge the constraints seen everyday... Architecture is a main component toward design and looking back at the great artists of our past such as- my favourites: Victor Horta, Hector Guimard, and others such as FLW, Le Corb, Eames... etc.
I do agree that no one can design new and inventive things until the past is explored and used as a continuous thread in ones new design, this also can be true of architecture that has been computer generated... As a designer, obviously, I am so inspired by architecture in the real world, but also in the alternate worlds that movies project and create... there the possibilities of endless manipulation, creativity and abstraction are possible- architecture at in its rawest, most creative form...
Two recent movies that inspired me immensely, were Alice in Wonderland... and Tinkerbell... These two movies were so inspiring and i just wanted to share this with you- i realize its unconventional to love anime when your older- but who says you cant!? ;)
Alice in Wonderland- the Red Queen's Castle
Tinkerbell's house... so cute...
This link between the imagined architecture and the architecture that is plausible in todays world is slowly merging. Thanks to material use, and the technology available... thus the imaginary becomes imaginable... A goal that is a constant drive is to become animated within a framework, crazy while still sane and childishly naive to the restrictions whilst maintaining the basics of functionality...

U and Me= Unity
As per usual, the inspiration for today is not related directly (or even obviously) to my design... but in a way that must be explained or just pieced together using ones own intuition. This week- I found a quote that was so inspiring... From Ghandi...
“If we believe in God, not merely with our intellect but with our whole being, we will love all mankind without any distinction of race or class, nation or religion. We will work for the unity of mankind. I have known no distinction between relatives and strangers, countrymen and foreigners, white and coloured, Hindus and Indians of other faiths whether Mussulmans, Parsees, Christians or Jews. I may say that my heart has been incapable of making any such distinctions. All men are brothers and no human being should be a stranger to another. The welfare of all, sarvodaya, should be our aim. God is the common bond that unites all human beings. To break this bond even with our greatest enemy is to tear God himself to pieces. There is humanity even in the most wicked.” (Gandhi)
The quote pertains to one of my larger theories which unites with the many others to create my concept of Boxcar LOCO. The idea of polyculturalism is one that fascinates me, and though hard to achieve- the hope that the union of cultures will occur keeps me dreaming. Coming from Africa (to those of you who don't know me well, I have an accent- a canadian one, but alas i was born in Uganda, Africa- so African is what I claim) the division of the countries seems the only hindrance in the creation of one super nation- so this quote, I think, is the key to finding a step forward in Africa, the world but also in my land of legend: Boxcar LOCO... A land where the cultures which overlap in Africa and Port Elizabeth are celebrated for their differences and complimented with one another... A land where all become united....

Babi Steps...
Now that you and my dear site have been introduced, the formalities can be eliminated. The concept was clear from the beginning but needed a tie to seal it together, this- I battled with for months.. but with luck I came across the idea of UTOPIA: a good place.. This allowed for development on the merger of tree-hugger, vintage glam, eclectic edge with a splash of modern colour which (in theory) will allow for a place of goodness to be planted within Port Elizabeth! YES! Now, how to accomplish this... Well, im still working on it... I have been measuring the site up from scratch this week, and yes its been interesting... the innocent love I had for the site has slightly dimmed with the finding of hobo houses, trash heaps, and other 'goodness' but now almost done the concept is always inspiring... One of the main images that I find so captivating is... wait for it.. * THIS *
I love it.. it is funky, fun, fresh, bright, eclectic, detailed and witty... not to mention TOTALLY adorable. That is what, in totality, i would love to create with the completion of my site... Is it possible? Um... Well see... (wish me luck!)
(Thanks to "Oh Joy" for the fantastic inspiration!)

Introducing...
As far as my journey has taken me thus far, my blog has not mentioned the direction which I am taking... So, all of you followers- meet "Boxcar LOCO", "Boxcar LOCO" meet my blog followers...
With that out of the way, I can begin to describe what "Boxcar LOCO" is all about. When i first moved to this city, first year interior design, driving from the airport a place caught my interest- The Humewood Train Depot. I fell madly in love with the rusted, aged elegance and the fantastic potential. I loved it from day one and this year it only seemed natural to do what I love. The site has aged with time and this year it looks older than ever but it has become dear to my heart and I hope that with the progress this year will take, I will show more people the vast beauty I see in the site and in the little details so often taken for granted. So, with further a due- the face to the name: "Boxcar LOCO"...

Je T'aime: I love..
To love, an emotion strong and often the spur of so many things... Love can be harnessed and utilized to motivate, direct and even redefine a persons view or goals... so today.. i will share my loves with u- described with images of course!
I love day dreaming... to drift away and never come back.. i only wish (sigh)
I love anything and all things PINK~ (Im sure the viewers are surprised! ;D)
I love anime and lil creatures of the cutest nature... these make my day and honestly, to be recreated into something like this wouldn't be a bad thing! <3
Most of all the love to be free, to dream and live life to the full is one that I hope to strengthen throughout this year- expressing myself through design and all i do each day... LOVE, LIVE, LAUGH!
Thanks to Bluebird Vintage, Dainty Squid and Oh Joy! for all the fantastic images...

Have you ever had a day that could only be described as a colour? You know, the only description that is remotely correct is not "it was good" or "dismal" or "Random" but "yellow", "green" or "red". Well, today was a day that when i think about it was yellow. I know - what? Though sleep deprivation is a slight influence at this stage, i definitely can say that when I close my eyes the day felt yellow.
In our field, the design one, colour plays a huge role psychologically. Yellow, as Im sure many of you know- is a colour associated with bright, cheerful and exuberant natures... The use of yellow can bring life to any colour palette, and act as that lil 'pop' needed in any combo of colour... However- the associate with yellow that is often neglected is that yellow when used to often or in a way slightly overdone, irritation occurs...
SO, today with an all nighter under the belt.. yellow comes to mind in what ever way you decide to interpret ;3 ... with that I leave you with some images that will remind you to think of all colour not only as just colour but as a description for all things...
