What defines Success?

Howdi all

Well its the last stretch and every day i start to chew more gum, loose more hair (i pull it out) and eat more junk food.. yep stress eating has happened.. ah! So, im still designing (gasp)...
Working on my space known as the Emery Wheel and i was looking at lighting... funny enough, inspiration of lighting from trains is.. well ... lacking... as seen below:

So, one of the lights that came to mind that could capture the idea of the jam jar colour in a new way was Kartel and his perspex lighting.. And wow.. i just fell more in love with his stuff.. Stunning... So to share.. Yea, that is my present to you .. jk... If this is success, ill have a huge helping!

Thesis: Check!

Hello again all!
Well today thesis- a year long project that was unending in work loads... is 'done'... A tired and delirious tashi, here... cant believe its done... there is nothing u can do to change anything now, its done and were all at the end of the road... (cough cough, die a slow death of heart attack... ) well the road seems too short for the amount of places i want to visit on it but we have to make a plan! Im thinking of all of you as we keep trudging on! Remember who you are and what got u here...
So, on that note... I will leave you with some of my random goodies... RANDOM being the key word... I hope that this inspires at least an iota of your design fancy! ;)
Keep it up and hold in there!

Lightbulb!!!

Hey all!

This week was a week of deliveries! :) All that i ordered arrived... You see, I had ordered a lightbulb for Nomad, fabric for my fashion piece and my mannequin for display, and this week- my lightbulb arrived... its gorgeous, stunning and any other wonderful word I can label the orbed glass. It missed its event when it came later than product hand in but for portfolio- its ready to shine (no pun intended)

The large role of 120m woven palm leaf has arrived... a huge huge role, and im so excited to create the dress Ive envisioned for so long. I hope it works out.. Evolver would be a great addition to my portfolio and a wonderful thing to see come alive. Fingers crossed!

Still waiting for my mannequin! Hoping to meet my lady this week still- cant wait! Yipee!
Good luck all,
xo

A New Found Olden Day Relic

Hello all!
Update- hmm... where to begin... Been working on my well, hmm.. all of the things Im behind on.. and it seems unending.. but as i was reworking my thesis i found this stunning bridge that i mentioned but had not found it anywhere other than the Herald- the Blaawkrantz Bridge, Grahamstown.

I fell in love with it immediately.. wow.. it is a stunning marvel of human engineering in a setting that just calls for attention. I love the lines, the form and the fact that there is such a history about this bridge. Still present today, i will be attending this tour- as its only in Grahamstown, it is a Heritage site and its so inspiring- I hope you all do too! I found a snip of a newspaper article about it.. so interesting, even though the stunning bridge seemed to create a disaster...

All lit up!

Well hello there! Shocking as the term comes to an end that we are almost at the end of the year (gasps and reaches for stress ball)... BUT we doing it.. I remember thinking- "I cant do btech! I just cant" then i realized i was already doing it and had been for three months at that point. hah. Well, this week we had a hand in for our design of our products... and so i thought that id have a little show-and-tell.
Four products: A fashion piece and three lights all speak of different types of personalities and therefore the four quarters of the site. Each brings in the firefly concept with clustering and a delicate touch of illumination. Each focuses on the phases of human life- the basics of human survival. But enough talk, lets look at the results... still in development but yes.

Shoot once, kill twice

Yep! Im gonna be catching my dear forgotten blog up as i have been rejecting it.. but no longer! heh -.- So, as i stated in the previous blog, two spaces are redesigned.. yep this is true! So the 2nd is the Underground.. This has been the struggle of the year.. ok wait.. i take that back- the whole project has been a struggle except for the fairytale section of the design- go figure! But! The Underground has gone from Bar, to Cocktail lounge, to Cafe, to...... SPA! Whaaat? I know what your thinking: "Drink to spa? Ok?" During a presentation it was made so clear that i had duplicated functions (tisk tisk) and this was not ideal and as I have a hotel, why not have a spa area! Thanks to Lene for lighting that lightbulb! This sounds good and well, but anyone who knows me, knows that Taashi and the SPA (dum-dum-dum) do not get along.. as one of my dear friends said: When i dip my foot in the pool it is considered a pedicure. Though not quite that bad, the ironic situation is that I am not about the pampering and 'foofi' things that really relate to a spa- oh! oh! and to make it worse i hate a bathtub.. showers- ok but bath.. nope! So, this was a dilemma.. but im finding it quite exciting and confusing.. but good. I dont know why people do some of the items i have read up on- such as the snake massage.. hmm.. i dont know about that one... But hopefully within the next week a new design will emerge and show me what the Spa thing is all about!
xo
Long time no write i know... BUT... Im back and have some new developments.. hehe.. Well, how many weeks into the term - and year- i am still designing and redesigning.. ahhah.. not good! The Emerywheel and the Underground have now been redone... Shocking i know but yes! With the past exam, the Emerywheel was a space that lacked warmth, though emphasized the shed building itself... This had to change.. Thus... An integration of the somewhat forgotten African concept is brought in... The design is still in progression but, im happy to say, its looking warmer and more.. well, designed. Take a look at the inspiration images that got me there.. or rather, almost there..

How did I miss this!

Hey all!
Well along my addictive trails of internet searches, I discovered the fashion and design style Steampunk as I had mentioned earlier... This has now become a frequented visitor to all relating sites and of course now Im in love! I have been looking at the fashion - yes, i admit Im slightly fashion orientated- and I thought that i could share with you the amazing fashion of this style! Take a look- and yes, I know we not fashion designers but I say Viva design- no matter what field!
